The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated 16 vehicles to the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), the country’s leading humanitarian organization.
The vehicles, which are Toyota Land Cruisers, were handed over to ARCS President Mawlawi Muqeem Hakhel by ICRC Operational Deputy Director Adrian Zimmermann in a ceremony in Kabul on Tuesday.
“We are grateful for the ICRC’s continued support to ARCS,” Hakhel said. “These vehicles will be used to transport people in need of humanitarian assistance, including those affected by natural disasters, conflict, and displacement.”
Zimmermann said that the ICRC remains committed to helping people in Afghanistan. “We are working to provide essential services to those who need them most,” he said.
The ICRC has been operating in Afghanistan for over 30 years. The organization provides a range of humanitarian services, including medical care, food assistance, and shelter.
The donation of vehicles is a significant boost for ARCS, which is working to meet the needs of millions of people affected by the country’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
