The Taliban’s High Commission for Refugee Affairs announced that on Friday, September 19th, Iran and Pakistan forcibly and voluntarily deported 6,785 Afghan migrants. Of this number, 1,416 were expelled from Iran and 5,369 migrants from Pakistan.

These migrants entered the country through the border crossings of Torkham, Spin Boldak, Bahramcha, Silk Bridge, and Islam Qala.

Statistics from the past week show that Pakistan expelled 32,064 and Iran expelled 9,020 Afghan migrants.

Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, warned that deporting Afghan migrants amid the recent earthquake crisis that affected over 500,000 people in eastern Afghanistan would put additional pressure on the community.

He called on Pakistan to halt the forced repatriation program for migrants.
