America’s concern about the cost of Taliban restrictions on women
Karen Decker, Chargé d’Afghanistan of the US Embassy in Qatar, has announced that the Taliban’s restrictions on working women cost Afghanistan $1 billion annually.
Dekker announced in a virtual meeting with media officials on Wednesday that no country in the world has succeeded in completely eliminating half of its population.
He added that the Taliban have issued more than 50 decrees to limit the rights of Afghan women. According to him, the people of Afghanistan have emphasized many times due to the provision of the right to education and employment for women as well as their participation in public life.
Decker stated that the lack of access to education for half of Afghanistan’s population (girls) weakens the country’s economy. This American diplomat stated: “No country can stand alone when half of its population is unable to provide income or support their families.
“On the other hand, Decker stated that guaranteeing the rights of all Afghan citizens, including women, is a strategic necessity for America.
After returning to power, the Taliban have restricted the fundamental rights of Afghan women and girls, including education and work. Recently, Rina Amiri, the US special representative for women and human rights in Afghanistan, has also announced that Afghanistan loses more than one billion dollars every year due to the anti-women practices of the Taliban.
