US and Pakistan Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Issues, Including Afghanistan
The foreign ministers of the United States and Pakistan have engaged in discussions regarding regional matters, including developments in Afghanistan.
The US State Department announced on Friday, the 17th of Hamal, the conversations and telephone discussions between officials of the two countries.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the State Department, stated that Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, and Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Pakistani Foreign Minister, have discussed bilateral cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, promoting economic security, enhancing commercial relations, and investment in the country.
However, the statements released by both countries did not provide further details regarding developments in Afghanistan and counterterrorism efforts.
These discussions come as President Joe Biden of the United States recently emphasized the importance of relations with Islamabad in a letter to Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and stressed the need to strengthen them.
Recent warnings indicate an increase in terrorism threats emanating from Afghan soil, with Islamabad and Washington repeatedly expressing their concerns on this matter and emphasizing joint efforts to combat it.
