Local sources in Nangarhar province report that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has prohibited the display of human images on banners in shops and commercial centers in this province.

Sources told 8am newspaper on Monday that the Taliban’s morality police have been enforcing this measure for several days now.

According to the sources, Taliban fighters have removed printed images from banners in shops in Jalalabad city and districts of this province and have warned the owners of commercial centers to refrain from displaying images on banners.

However, some shopkeepers say that the newly imposed restriction by the Taliban has had a negative impact on their businesses.

Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar have not commented on the matter so far.

Previously, the Taliban had warned citizens in various parts of the country not to use images on banners and to refrain from using what they called “foreign” words in their advertisements.

This comes as a few days ago, local Taliban authorities in Kandahar had also banned photography at their ceremonies.
