Local sources in Panjshir province have reported that a sixteen-year-old boy named Mohammad Jawed tragically drowned in the Paryan district. The unfortunate incident occurred inside a flooded excavation pit that was originally dug for gold mining.

According to local residents, the pit was left behind by gold miners and had recently filled up due to the rising water levels of the river. The schoolboy lost his life while attempting to swim in the deep, water-filled crater.

Abandoned mining pits along the Panjshir River pose massive threats to local residents and children. Over the past year alone, several individuals, including domestic tourists, have lost their lives while swimming in the dangerous waters of this river.
