McCaul’s Criticism of the U.S. Withdrawal from Afghanistan at Hearing Session
Michael McCaul, the chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, in a hearing with the presence of Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, referred to Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the escalating tensions in the Middle East, stating that all these started after the Taliban’s second takeover of Afghanistan.According to the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, McCaul, in a statement on Thursday night, June 3, described the “deadly” and “disastrous” retreat from Afghanistan as a “stain” on U.S. foreign policy that will remain for future generations.
McCaul, in this meeting, called the evacuation process from Afghanistan a “failure” and announced that currently, more than a thousand Americans and about 20,000 of their Afghan colleagues are facing the threat of the Taliban.
This Republican critic of the Biden administration has asked Blinken to testify about the withdrawal from Afghanistan to the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the coming September. Blinken has also accepted McCaul’s request.
Blinken said in this meeting: “Mr. Chairman, I have appeared before this committee five times, including once that was solely dedicated to Afghanistan, but I was asked about Afghanistan every time.
“After the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban’s second domination of the country, the Biden administration has been constantly faced with criticisms in this regard. The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Republicans, has initiated investigations into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and its implications for U.S. foreign policy.
