German Police Officer Dies Following Attack by Afghan Assailant

A 29-year-old German police officer who was injured in an attack by an Afghan assailant in the city of Heppenheim succumbed to his wounds on Sunday, June 13. The officer had suffered severe injuries to his head and neck.

On Saturday, a court in Germany issued an arrest warrant for the Afghan assailant on charges of attempted murder. The individual, who has two children, had entered Germany in 2014. No further details about his immigration status or how he entered Germany have been released.

Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, expressed deep regret over the police officer’s death and stated that his commitment to everyone’s security deserves the highest appreciation.
