Professor Dr. Zemaryalai Tarzi, Prominent Afghan Archaeologist, Passes Away
Professor Dr. Zemaryalai Tarzi, one of Afghanistan’s elite and renowned archaeologists with worldwide fame, passed away. His sister, Homa Tarzi, confirmed the news on her Facebook page, describing it as a great loss for the Tarzi family and Afghanistan.
Dr. Zemaryalai Tarzi dedicated his life to serving his homeland, both inside and outside the country. His last scholarly work was presented about a month ago at the University of Strasbourg in France while he was on his sickbed.
He received his doctorate in archaeology from the University of Strasbourg, France, and with his countless works, he forever etched Afghanistan’s name in the world’s scientific centers. His books are available as references for students in various universities.
Professor Tarzi was awarded the prestigious Chevalier des Palmes Académiques medal by the French government and the Gold Medal of Saint Constantine the Great by the Greek government. He also held the position of Director of Eastern Archaeology on behalf of UNESCO. Due to his unparalleled achievements, he traveled to Japan at the invitation of the Emperor’s wife and to attend a Buddhist conference at the invitation of the Dalai Lama.
