Historic Triumph: Zakia Khudadadi, Afghanistan’s First Paralympic Medalist
On Thursday, August 29, Zakia Khudadadi, an Afghan para-taekwondo athlete, made history by winning Afghanistan’s first-ever Paralympic medal.
She secured the bronze medal after defeating strong opponents from Cuba and Turkey.
Khudadadi, who sought refuge in France following the Taliban group’s takeover of Afghanistan, is a member of the International Olympic Committee’s Refugee Team.
This victory comes at a time when the Taliban group has imposed severe restrictions on women in sports.
With this achievement, Zakia has become a symbol of hope for millions of refugees and people with disabilities worldwide.
