On October 21, 2024, Israel launched extensive strikes against branches of a financial institution affiliated with Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to reports, at least eleven strikes occurred in Beirut’s southern suburbs, many targeting the Al-Qard Al-Hassan association
The Israeli military stated that these strikes were aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s financial system. Israeli attacks also targeted areas in Lebanon’s eastern Beqaa Valley and southern regions. One Israeli strike landed near Beirut’s airport, which serves as the main entry point for humanitarian aid to the country.
In response, Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets towards Israel and targeting military bases near Haifa, Safed, and Tiberias. It’s reported that the Lebanese group launched approximately 200 projectiles towards Israel.
This escalation of tensions comes as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that an Israeli army bulldozer intentionally demolished an observation tower and perimeter fence at a U.N. position in southern Lebanon.
These events indicate an increase in regional tensions and have raised concerns about the potential spread of the conflict. #IsraelStrikesLebanon #Hezbollah #MiddleEastTension #AlQardAlHassan #IsraelLebanonConflict
