Sardar Ahmad Shakib, the Taliban ambassador in Islamabad, has stated that the Pakistani police have asked Afghan citizens to leave the cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi after January 15. This request applies to all Afghans, whether they possess documents or not. Shakib discussed this issue with Philippa Candler, the head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Pakistan.

The Taliban ambassador also expressed concern over the recent arrests and harassment of Afghan citizens in these two cities. He mentioned that the Pakistani police are conducting searches of Afghan migrants’ homes and even detaining individuals with valid visas and legal documents, including women and children, sometimes demanding bribes and large sums of money.

So far, Pakistani officials have not commented on this matter. However, in recent days, the Pakistani police have intensified the arrests and deportations of Afghan citizens from Islamabad.
