Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, rejected the US representative’s claims during Monday’s Security Council meeting, stating that Afghanistan, not Pakistan, is the primary recruitment center for ISIS-K fighters. He emphasized that his country has been seriously combating terrorist groups including ISIS, Tehrik-e-Taliban, and Baloch insurgents.
These statements came in response to the US representative’s earlier remarks claiming that ISIS-K has been able to continuously recruit in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, becoming a threat to global security.
Meanwhile, the Taliban group had previously accused Pakistan of using ISIS as a tool against them. These tensions highlight the deep divisions among regional countries regarding counter-terrorism efforts.
