A new book reveals that Joe Biden’s senior advisors “strongly” warned Democratic donors last summer that if the president stepped aside due to concerns about his age and abilities, the party would make a “mistake” by nominating Vice President Kamala Harris against Donald Trump. Despite these warnings, Biden eventually withdrew and Harris became the nominee.
“The Battle: Inside the Wildest Race for the White House” by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes will be published next week as Trump’s second turbulent presidency enters its third month. The book describes Harris’s challenging campaign, including her inability to secure an interview with influential podcaster Joe Rogan while Trump did, and her frustration with tight control from former Biden advisors.
The authors detail how after Biden’s disastrous debate performance in Atlanta on June 27, his advisors “reacted frantically” with phone calls and text messages, accusing donors of pursuing personal agendas at the expense of Biden, the party, and the country. The book provides a tense and detailed account of the crisis that unfolded as calls mounted for Biden to withdraw from the race.
