Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, who claims to be the sixth-generation descendant of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor, has recently gained attention with his claims to ownership of India’s most important Mughal heritage sites. He asserts that his lineage connects him to great Mughal emperors like Aurangzeb, Shah Jahan, and Akbar, and currently resides in Hyderabad.

Prince Tucy’s most notorious claim to date has been ownership of the Taj Mahal, India’s legendary white marble mausoleum built by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. To substantiate his claims, he even submitted a DNA report to the Hyderabad court, which was reportedly accepted, further strengthening his bold assertions.

Beyond the Taj Mahal, the prince was involved in the controversial Ayodhya Ram Mandir issue. He claimed that if the property was connected to Babur, the Mughal emperor who commissioned the Babri Masjid on the land, then he and his family were its legitimate owners. He declared no objection to building the Ram Temple on the property and even donated a golden brick for it.
