Today, May 29, 2025, marks the National Pashto Language Day in Afghanistan.

This day was first celebrated in 2012 in Kabul during a ceremony attended by writers, prominent figures, and government officials.

The purpose of celebrating this day is to honor the value of the Pashto language, encourage literary and scientific advancement, and raise public awareness for the preservation and expansion of the language.

According to experts, Pashto ranks among the world’s top 40 major languages out of 7,117 languages worldwide and has more than 60 million speakers.

Afrasiab Khattak, a Pashtun politician, says: “Pashto is the backbone of our culture and identity.

” He adds that this language has preserved us as a nation. Experts believe that despite political and economic challenges, the Pashto language has made significant progress over the past forty years.
