Golchehrah Yaftali, a women’s rights activist, posted a video on social media showing a young man being harassed by the Taliban simply for having long hair.
In response to this behavior, she wrote: “The harassment of a young man by the Taliban just because he had long hair, while most of the Taliban themselves have long hair and are often infested with lice, is pure hypocrisy.”
Zalmay Khalilzad, former US representative, reposted her statement commenting: “If true, this is terrible.” These reactions come as the Taliban have imposed strict restrictions on the appearance of Afghan citizens since taking power in August 2021.
This incident represents another example of the Taliban’s double standards, where they impose strict rules on the public while not adhering to them themselves. Human rights activists have expressed growing concerns about the Taliban’s repressive actions and their negative impact on individual freedoms in Afghanistan.
