OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has revealed that Meta is offering signing bonuses of up to $100 million to lure his top engineers.

This revelation comes as Meta significantly ramps up its AI ambitions, investing $14.3 billion in Scale AI and recruiting its CEO, Alexandr Wang, to lead its new superintelligence team.

Speaking on the “Uncapped” podcast hosted by his brother Jack, Altman said, “I’ve heard that Meta thinks of us as their biggest competitor, and I think it is rational for them to keep trying.

” He added that despite the generous offers, “so far none of our best people have decided to take them up on that.” Industry analysts suggest these extraordinary figures reflect the belief that “a handful of elite researchers and engineers can provide a decisive competitive advantage” in the AI race.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is quietly collaborating with Apple’s former design chief Jony Ive on a sleek, screenless wearable AI device designed to be aware of users’ lives.

With billions being poured into this competitive landscape and growing privacy concerns emerging, the battle for AI dominance is clearly intensifying across the tech industry.
