Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Interior Minister, has admitted that some members of the group may have secretly taken revenge on officials from the previous government.
Speaking at a meeting with government officials and “martyrs’ families” in Kapisa on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Haqqani emphasized that the Taliban administration does not allow its members to violate others’ rights and that those who have sought revenge will be accountable to God.
During this meeting, the Taliban’s Interior Minister described the Taliban rule as a period of divine testing and asked officials to treat people in a way that would not defame the Taliban regime.
He claimed that the Taliban system “represents religion, Sharia, and martyrs,” and urged Taliban members to remember the hardships of wartime while performing their duties and to strive for maintaining and strengthening the regime.
Haqqani stressed that strengthening the system and providing services to people is a divine trust that officials must fulfill with complete sincerity.
Despite the Taliban having announced a general amnesty, the United Nations has repeatedly reported that the group is not adhering to this commitment and has detained, tortured, and in some cases killed numerous military personnel and employees of the previous government.
