Chinese state media have reported that heavy rainfall in Beijing, equivalent to a year’s worth of precipitation in just a few days, has resulted in the death of at least 30 people in the mountainous regions north of the city.

Of this number, 28 people lost their lives in the “Miyun” district alone.

These unprecedented heavy rains have caused flooding and landslides in the northern areas of the Chinese capital.

Local authorities are currently providing aid to victims and assessing damage to urban infrastructure and residential areas.

This incident comes at a time when China has been grappling with numerous climate challenges in recent years, including drought and devastating floods.

Experts believe climate change could be the main factor increasing the intensity and frequency of these weather phenomena.
