Richard Bennett, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, has expressed concern over the forced displacement of Bamyan residents from their homes and lands in Rashk village.
On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Bennett wrote on his X page calling for a peaceful and fair solution, emphasizing that the Taliban must adhere to international standards including fair trials, prior notification, genuine consultation with residents, and compensation payments.
Bennett stressed that forced displacement by the Taliban group is never acceptable and that the international community must monitor the protection of Afghan people’s rights.
These statements come as 25 Hazara families from Rashk village in Panjab district of Bamyan have been forcibly evicted from their homes by the Taliban group.
Reports indicate that this action followed a ruling by a Taliban court in favor of Kuchi nomads, with Taliban forces locking homes and throwing residents’ belongings outside.
Previously, the Taliban had forcibly relocated more than 600 families from their native lands in Dawlatyar district of Ghor province.
