Amy Klobuchar, Democratic Senator, is advocating for the passage of a bipartisan bill to support Afghans who collaborated with American forces in Afghanistan.

The Senator has urged Congress to approve the “Afghan Allies Promise Act,” which would provide a pathway to permanent residency for these asylum seekers, many of whom served as interpreters for US forces in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, Senator Klobuchar wrote on X social media platform: “We must support the Afghans who stood with us during the war. Veterans stand with our Afghan allies.

Now it’s Congress’s turn to act and pass this bipartisan bill.” This legislation was introduced in early August 2025 after many former collaborators of the US army faced the threat of deportation from America.

This marks the second bipartisan bill introduced by members of Congress in the past month. Four Republican and Democratic representatives also introduced the “Enduring Welcome Act” on August 19, 2025.

The Trump administration and Republicans do not support expedited acceptance of Afghan asylum seekers for security reasons and believe that the situation in Afghanistan poses no threat to these refugees.

Congress is currently on summer recess and will resume work on September 2, 2025.
