Taliban’s morality police officials visited government and private schools in Kandahar today and expelled all girls over 9 years old or those who appeared tall for their age. This decision affected even eight and six-year-old girls who were denied education due to their height.
A father from Kandahar reported that his two daughters in sixth and fifth grades were expelled today: “One of my daughters is eight years old and the other is six, but they were expelled because of their height.” He added that given the Kunar earthquake and the need for female doctors, he expected the Taliban group to find a solution for girls’ education.
Sources within the Ministry of Education say this policy will expand to other provinces. They believe that a 9-year-old girl is considered mature and cannot leave home.
