The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced that one woman and 15 men were publicly flogged in Kabul and Balkh on charges of selling and trafficking narcotic tablets and “illicit relationships”.

These individuals were punished with 20 to 39 lashes and sentenced to imprisonment ranging from ten months to three and a half years.

The Taliban’s primary court in Kabul punished 14 people with lashes for selling and trafficking narcotic drugs including Zikab and tablet-ka.

Additionally, one woman and one man in Balkh were flogged for “illicit relationships” in the presence of local officials, court staff, visitors, military personnel, and civilians.

The Taliban has flogged at least 31 people, including 6 women, across Afghanistan on various charges in the past week.

International organizations have repeatedly called on this group to stop corporal punishment of defendants, but the Taliban considers flogging as “Islamic Sharia law” and continues its implementation.
