The United Nations announced that the Taliban group has prevented Afghan women aid workers from operating in earthquake-affected areas, following the ban on female UN staff entering offices in Kabul.

This action complicates assistance to vulnerable populations in these regions.

Taliban forces blocked Afghan women employees from entering UN offices in Kabul, Herat, and Mazar-i-Sharif on September 7th.

The group told female staff they have no right to work for the UN or any other organization. UNAMA also reported that women staff were prevented from traveling to earthquake zones.

The UN warned that these actions endanger humanitarian aid delivery to hundreds of thousands of women, men, and children in eastern Afghanistan’s earthquake areas.

Most earthquake victims were women and children, with restrictions contributing to increased deaths among injured women due to limited access to aid.
