Local sources in Kunar province reported that Shabir Ahmad, Taliban intelligence chief in Shegal district, was killed along with his young son in an explosion.

The incident occurred on Friday evening, September 12th, at his residence.

According to reports, the explosion happened while the intelligence chief was transferring explosive materials from one location to another.

A mortar shell exploded during the transfer, instantly killing his son, while Ahmad himself died from injuries at Kunar provincial hospital.

Shabir Ahmad, originally from Ghazi Abad district of Kunar, had been serving as Taliban intelligence chief for Shegal district since the group’s return to power.

Local Taliban authorities in Kunar have not yet commented on this incident, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
