Waliullah Labib, a prominent religious scholar and former dean of the Faculty of Sharia at Al-Biruni University, strongly criticized the Taliban’s decision to cut fiber optic internet services.

In a video circulated on social media, he questioned: “We have the right to ask why internet has been cut in Afghanistan and what is the Islamic justification for such a decision?”

Labib addressed the Taliban’s justification of preventing “moral corruption,” stating that in Islamic jurisprudence, one must calculate whether benefits outweigh harm.

He emphasized that most people use internet for education, business, and connecting with the world, calling these “blessings of the internet.”

The religious scholar also condemned the closure of girls’ schools, arbitrary killings, non-payment of retirees’ salaries, bigotry, and corruption as “forbidden acts” committed by the Taliban group.

The Taliban, under orders from Hibatullah Akhundzada, has cut high-speed fiber optic internet in more than 10 Afghan provinces since September 2025.
