Donald Trump, President of the United States, confirmed that a team from his administration is negotiating with the Taliban group about recapturing Bagram Air Base.

The Wall Street Journal reported, citing American sources, that the Taliban have not agreed to part of the American delegation’s negotiations regarding a small military presence of US forces at Bagram.

These negotiations, led by Adam Boehler, Trump’s special envoy for hostages and prisoners, include potential prisoner exchanges, a possible economic agreement, and a security component.

Trump said at a White House press conference: “We’ll see what happens with Bagram”.

He again criticized the manner of American forces’ withdrawal under the Biden administration from Afghanistan, saying: “That day was the most shameful day in our country’s history.

There was no reason to abandon it”. The Taliban group has not yet said anything about their discussions with the American side regarding the handover of Bagram base.
