Former Afghan President Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in his history lessons series, stated that monarchical systems in Afghanistan have been unsuccessful because succession problems cannot be resolved He added that currently all Islamic systems face the same challenge.
Dr. Ghani emphasized logical reasons why monarchical systems cannot continue, including inability to establish balance between kings and ministers.
He noted hereditary systems lack accountability and Afghanistan needs popular systems, suggesting tribal council systems as viable alternatives.
The former president added that Afghanistan’s millennia of history shows repeated establishment of political, military, and administrative centralism, but economic centralism could never be achieved. He compared Afghanistan to a garden requiring inclusion of all dimensions for stability.
