Based on the ruling of the Taliban’s primary court in Laghman province, one woman and two men were publicly flogged on charges of “fleeing home and theft”.

Each of these individuals, in addition to enduring 39 lashes, were also sentenced to imprisonment ranging from six months to one year.
The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced on Wednesday, October 14th, in a newsletter that the head of Laghman’s primary court gave a speech to the people about the value and philosophy of “retribution,” limits and punishments during the execution ceremony.

Just three days earlier, six other people were also publicly flogged in Laghman province on charges of various “crimes.”

The Taliban group has punished hundreds of people with public flogging during their four years of rule over Afghanistan.

The absence of independent judicial and legal institutions in Afghanistan has increased concerns about the possibility of defendants receiving fair trials.
