In Nangarhar, the Taliban publicly flogged two individuals 20 lashes each for drug trafficking and sentenced them to six months to one year in prison.

These punishments followed approval by the Supreme Court and orders from the local city court.


Local Taliban officials were present during the flogging, which is part of ongoing corporal punishments since the Taliban’s return to power.

This week, 11 people were flogged in Kabul and 19 in Zabul on similar charges.


International human rights organizations condemn these punishments as violations of fundamental human rights and characterize them as cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment.
