Senior Taliban officials held a joint meeting with Mullah Hibatullah in Kandahar to discuss issuing a fatwa against war in Pakistan. The meeting indicated that issuing the fatwa would be conditional on Islamabad’s official recognition of the group.
Rahmatullah Najib, a member of the Taliban negotiating team, announced that Pakistan had requested Taliban leadership to issue a fatwa declaring war against the Pakistani government as illegitimate. He emphasized that fatwas are issued by Dar al-Ifta and the Pakistani government must formally request a religious ruling.
This request comes amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban in recent months. Pakistan believes that Pakistani Taliban fighters use Afghan soil for attacks, a claim the Taliban group has rejected.
