Sources from Kandahar told media that Hibatullah Akhundzada, leader of the Taliban group, called previous and jihadi leaders “corrupt” during a meeting with religious scholars titled “seminar” in the province, asking northern scholars not to support these leaders. He told religious scholars from northern provinces not to allow failed past policies to be repeated.
The meeting, which the Taliban called an “educational seminar” in a statement, was held for two days at Kandahar’s jihadi school. Hibatullah Akhundzada also said his decrees are “based on texts and practical, and following them is important.”
These criticisms come while his administration faces accusations of power monopolization and ethnic homogenization of government structures by human rights organizations. The Taliban cabinet structure is remarkably concentrated in southern provinces, particularly Kandahar, with key positions including the leader, prime minister, and central bank chief all from Kandahar.
