Amid the failure of three rounds of talks and rising tensions between the Taliban group and Pakistan, a high-level Turkish delegation led by the country’s intelligence chief will travel to Islamabad next week.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey’s foreign and defense ministers along with the intelligence chief will be part of this delegation.
The purpose of this visit is to work toward achieving a permanent ceasefire and establishing peace between Afghanistan and Pakistan as soon as possible. This initiative comes after the failure of three rounds of negotiations in Istanbul that reached a deadlock due to disagreements over ceasefire implementation details and counter-terrorism measures.
Turkey, which maintains close relations with both sides, is attempting to act as an effective mediator. The country previously hosted two rounds of bilateral negotiations between the Taliban group and Pakistan in Istanbul.
