Sara Adams, a former US intelligence officer, has claimed that the suspect in the recent attack on two US National Guard members near the White House is likely affiliated with the Taliban group.
She argued that the suspect’s last name suggests a Taliban connection and called for an end to US financial support for the group.
Meanwhile, several Afghan residents in the US have posted on social media, asserting that the attacker was a Taliban collaborator.
However, Fox News reports that Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the shooting suspect, previously worked with US security agencies, including the CIA, in Kandahar province.
Security sources say Lakanwal entered the US a month after the fall of the previous Afghan government, as part of the “Operation Allies Welcome” program in 2021.
The FBI has stated that the condition of the two West Virginia National Guard members remains critical, and US immigration authorities have temporarily halted Afghan refugee applications.
