On December 3rd, reports emerged that Abdul Ahad Fazli, the Taliban-appointed governor of Faryab, seized assets and equipment belonging to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), which were intended to be transferred to Balkh.

This action followed UNAMA’s decision to close its Faryab office by the end of this year due to budget cuts.

Sources confirmed that the Taliban governor not only blocked the transfer but also confiscated all office property.

So far, neither UNAMA nor Taliban group officials have publicly commented on this incident.

Observers warn that the seizure of official UN property sends a sensitive political message and could undermine trust in international agencies’ operations, impacting aid and development activities in Afghanistan.
