The Jamestown Magazine reports that Tajmir Jawad, deputy intelligence chief of the Taliban group and a prominent Haqqani Network commander, has become one of the most dangerous Taliban members due to his suspected ties with ISIS-Khorasan and al-Qaeda.

Jawad reportedly led suicide operations and targeted assassinations, and after the deadly Abbey Gate attack in 2021, helped fellow terrorists escape via safe routes.

Since 2013, Jawad has been associated with the hardline branch of the Haqqani Network, receiving direct training from Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Interior.

He played a major role in Taliban propaganda and oversaw the al-Hamza suicide unit’s training program until the group’s takeover in August 2021.

Jawad’s activities and connections with ISIS and al-Qaeda have raised serious concerns about the Taliban’s control over their own forces and regional security.

Jamestown Magazine warns that his leadership in Taliban intelligence could further fuel violence, terrorism, and instability across Afghanistan and the region.
