Australia’s Foreign Ministry announced in Qaws (December) that it has established an independent sanctions framework targeting at least 140 individuals and entities of the Taliban group for suppressing women and girls.

This action demonstrates Australia’s commitment to defending human rights on a global scale.

Australia is the first country in the world to independently include such sanctions against the Taliban group in its national law.

The move has received positive responses from international human rights organizations.

Under this framework, Taliban-linked persons and organizations involved in violating women’s rights will face asset freezes and travel bans.
