A new study by the organization Terre des Hommes reveals that, as of December 2025, young Afghan migrants in Turkey are facing significant challenges due to legal restrictions and reduced humanitarian support.
These issues have severely limited their access to education, healthcare, livelihoods, and social services.
The report highlights that an unclear legal status is the main barrier to the social and economic integration of Afghan youth.
The study, based on six group interviews with Afghan youth, shows that 76% of participants were women and 24% men, with 58% aged 15 to 30.
Many Afghan asylum seekers are left in legal limbo due to suspended or revoked identity documents, which restricts their access to essential services and increases their vulnerability.
Turkey hosts a large Afghan community, estimated at 300,000 people, some living without proper residency documents.
Most can only find informal, low-paying jobs. Social discrimination, administrative pressures, detentions related to illegal residency, and fears of deportation have further increased the psychological insecurity and vulnerability of Afghan youth in Turkey.
