Iranian police have detained 1,207 Afghan migrants in the cities of Yazd and Zahedan over the past week.
This crackdown specifically targets individuals lacking official documentation, whom authorities refer to as “unauthorized foreign nationals” residing within the country.
Reports indicate that 750 individuals were arrested in Yazd and another 457 in Zahedan during these operations.
The arrests are part of a broader and intensifying campaign by the Iranian government to manage and deport the undocumented population within its borders.
Police commanders stated these actions fall under the “Social Security Enhancement Plan,” which they claim aims to improve public satisfaction.
The situation for Afghan refugees in neighboring countries continues to be a significant humanitarian concern as deportation numbers rise.
