Rahmatullah Najib, the Taliban’s Deputy Interior Minister, declared in Maidan Wardak that there is no room for democracy in Afghanistan.
Speaking at a police graduation, he insisted that no one should even dream of such a system returning, claiming it lacks support from the Afghan people.
Despite his assurances of unity, deep rifts are emerging within the Taliban leadership. Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani recently criticized ruling by fear, questioning the legitimacy of such governance, while the Kandahar faction insists on absolute obedience to the supreme leader.
These internal power struggles over the country’s structure continue amidst severe restrictions on women and free speech.
Observers note that the divide between the Kabul administration and the Kandahar-based leadership is becoming increasingly visible to the public.
