Local sources in Badakhshan report a gruesome crime where unidentified assailants beheaded a former military officer.
The victim, identified as Nasir, had been working as a taxi driver since the fall of the previous government. His body was discovered in the Yaftal district after he went missing a week ago.
Nasir had previously served in the police headquarters of Takhar and Badakhshan. Reports suggest that his car was hired by unknown individuals who later executed him in a remote area.
No group has claimed responsibility for the murder, and local Taliban officials have yet to comment on the incident.
This killing adds to the growing list of targeted attacks against former security personnel despite the general amnesty declared by the Taliban.
The recurring reports of torture and killings of ex-soldiers across various provinces continue to instill fear and raise serious human rights concerns regarding the safety of those who served the former republic.
