NASA’s historic library at the Goddard Space Flight Center closed its doors forever on January 2.

The closure is part of a reorganization plan by the Trump administration that will see over 100 labs and buildings shuttered by 2026.
Tragically, reports indicate that much of the 100,000-volume collection will be “tossed away.

” While some materials will be stored, specialized equipment has already been disposed of, marking the end of a hub that supported missions like the Hubble Telescope.

Critics, including Senator Chris Van Hollen, have condemned the move as an attack on scientific exploration.

Staff are now directed to use digital services, ending over six decades of physical archival tradition at the center.
