The Ministry of Refugees under the Taliban administration has confirmed the return of 92 Afghan citizens released from prisons in Pakistan.
According to officials, these individuals had been detained for periods ranging from one day to two months.
Most detentions of Afghans in Pakistan are due to a lack of legal residency documents. International organizations have noted a surge in arrests and deportations, with reports of mistreatment by Pakistani police adding to the refugees’ plight.
The UN has warned that the mass return of over 2.6 million people places immense strain on Afghanistan’s resources.
Without adequate infrastructure, returnees face a high risk of poverty and displacement in a deepening humanitarian crisis.
