Mohammad Halim Fadai, the former governor of Khost during the Republic era, has controversially suggested that Afghanistan should be “legally handed over to the US” for the benefit of the people.
He warned that failing to reach an agreement with the US would allow Pakistan to fill the power vacuum.
Fadai’s comments coincide with recent remarks by Zalmay Khalilzad, who stated that there are still many grounds for agreement with the Taliban. Khalilzad remained tight-lipped about certain details of the Doha discussions.
The statement highlights the ongoing debate about Afghanistan’s international standing. Fadai argues that US involvement brings global cooperation opportunities, a stance that contrasts sharply with the Taliban’s narrative of independence.
