The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced the public flogging of four people in Maidan Wardak and Badakhshan provinces on charges of illicit relations.
The punished individuals included a woman, and sentences ranged from 30 to 39 lashes.
In addition to corporal punishment, the accused were handed prison terms ranging from six months to three years.
This continues a trend where the group has flogged over 800 people in the past ten months alone.
International human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned these public punishments as violations of human dignity and international law. The Taliban, however, insist they are implementing Sharia law.
