A new penal code issued by the Taliban group creates harsh penalties for citizens who fail to act as informants. According to a report by the rights group “Rawadari,” anyone aware of anti-Taliban activities who does not report them to authorities faces a mandatory two-year prison sentence.
The code imposes severe punishments on personal and religious freedoms. Deviating from the Hanafi school of thought is now a crime punishable by prison, while insulting Taliban leaders carries a penalty of 20 lashes. The document extends to private life, criminalizing acts such as looking at a neighbor’s wife or not fasting, with penalties including flogging.
Rawadari has condemned the code as a systematic violation of human rights, noting its use of terms like “slave” and the stratification of society. Legal experts warn that the lack of transparency in the Taliban’s judicial system, combined with these new laws, legalizes arbitrary punishment and discrimination against minorities. #HumanRights #TalibanLaw #FreeSpeech #Punishment #Flogging #Prison #Afghanistan #Rawadari #Justice #CivilLiberties
