Former NDS chief Rahmatullah Nabil has strongly criticized the new 119-article penal code ratified by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, calling it a clear sign of “repeating ignorance and extremism.
” He argued that politicizing religion only serves to diminish its respect and offers no viable future for the nation.
Writing on X, Nabil emphasized that the time has come to leave extremism behind and rescue religion from violent interpretations.
He called on political groups, scholars, and the youth to unite for a “new narrative” focused on a citizen-centric and lawful government.
Nabil warned that without mobilizing for a just and humane Afghanistan, the country risks falling back into a bitter cycle of violence.
Human rights organizations have also flagged the document for violating fundamental international human rights standards.
