In a powerful joint statement, more than 100 civil society and human rights organizations have condemned the ruling group’s laws in Afghanistan as acts of “gender apartheid” and crimes against humanity.
They argue that the Vice and Virtue laws and penal codes have effectively erased women from all spheres of public, professional, and educational life .
The signatories warn that millions of Afghan women and girls are currently living under what amounts to house arrest, facing structural violence and a systematic denial of human dignity. The coalition urges the international community not to normalize relations with a regime that has instituted a form of modern slavery by excluding half the population .
The statement calls for immediate action from the International Criminal Court and the UN to launch independent investigations into these policies. It demands targeted sanctions against the leaders responsible and insists that the ruling group must not be recognized as a legitimate government while these violations persist .
