A dedicated group of Buddhist monks arrived in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, completing a grueling five-month journey across the United States to promote peace. Having walked over 2,300 miles through eight states, the monks faced severe challenges, including freezing temperatures and a serious car accident involving their security vehicle. Even their rescued dog, Aloka, had to undergo surgery before rejoining the trek.
Their mission is rooted in the belief that peace begins within the heart and extends to the community. Throughout the pilgrimage, the monks adhered to strict ancient traditions, eating only one meal a day and sleeping outdoors under trees to practice humility and spiritual focus. They urged supporters via social media to continue advocating for a better world.
The journey will conclude with a ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday. After months of walking and spreading their profound message across the country, the group from the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center is scheduled to return to their home in Texas this Thursday.
